Intent
The intent of this blog is to keep the site updated with current information and what works or does not work for securing property. While some may have been offended by the first entry, it's not my intent to offend. I do rip into inferior products and compliment good ones. When Schlage came out with a good deadbolt I can sell with confidence at a price most people can afford, I mentioned it right away. Anyway, a manufacturer was offended when I tried to get them to improve their cylinders which are among the worst I've seen. In addition to poorly made cylinders, I observed poor machining and a lack of attention to detail. This company advertises that it's products are in fact, superior to the top two names in this category but it's simply not true. I maintained excitement in this product line as long as I could. If I didn't care, I would have said nothing and won't mention this company anymore, they coulda' been a contender.
Some manufacturers claim to listen to input from locksmiths and users but change comes slow. Schlage's new B500 deadbolt is great, they really listened. Arrow's deadbolt is still in need of a make-over. American and Master padlocks are still good and Master Lock is coming up with new products constantly. Kwikset is slipping a little, in my opinion.
Every manufacturer talks about quality. To see and feel it means more than words can ever express. The disappointment felt about a lack of quality almost never goes away, especially if you expected a lot. QUALITY, it's not a buzzword to me, I know it when I see it.
